Interview with: Rev. Brad Anderson, Cayce Presbyterian Church
Cayce Presbyterian Church in Cayce, SC began their strengthening journey in 2020. Rev. Brad Anderson shares some take-aways that are influencing his ministry.
In our strengthening journey one thing that stands out above everything else: having a people that are willing to engage the process. Just like the human body, you will not get in shape unless you actually move your body. That said, there is no silver bullet solution, and no business pattern baptized with a Bible verse to follow for success. Keeping our mission before us and being a congregation that desires to see Kingdom work be done is central.
Is there a next step for your church?
Our church’s session is always considering what’s next, and the Body of Christ loves to engage in the ministries that are currently established. We do not desire to create programming and activities that will wear us out and might take our eyes off our mission of “Connecting our community with the Good News and Hope of Jesus Christ.” How are we doing with our present tasks and how can we make better use of our time. Our best next step is prayerfully making sure we do not take a step backwards.
Any encouragement for other churches considering a renewal/strengthening journey?
Churches of all sizes and levels of health need to prayerfully consider their congregation’s health. Church strengthening is not something only small churches should consider. One question that continues to pop up from time to time is “What would happen in our community if our church didn’t exist?” Considering the variety of answers that could arise will perhaps give you a sober view of the future of your church.
