“This is eternal life, that they know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” – John 14:3
Meet the Awtreys
God placed an early calling on both the lives of Matt and Jeni Awtrey, while they were still in high school. Matt and Jeni met in college, while serving in the college ministry of a local church in Columbia, SC. They got married while Matt was attending Seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. After graduation, Matt took a call to Christ Reformed Church as Associate Pastor and served that congregation for five years. In 2016, Matt was called by Catawba Presbytery of the ARP to move Irmo, SC and begin setting the foundation for an ARP church plant there. The Lord has blessed Jeni and Matt with three beautiful children – Mary Belk ( May, 2011), Eliza Kate (April, 2013), and Matthew (July, 2015).
What is the Vision for this Church Plant?
Simply stated, our vision is to ‘Know God and Follow Him into the Harvest.’ In 2015, God began the movement for this church plant when 10 acres of undeveloped property on one of the main roads in Irmo was donated to Catawba Presbytery. Within a 6 mile radius of the property, lives nearly 120,000 people many of whom are not involved in any church. The location of the property is also within 10 miles of Lexington, Chapin and Balletine; all of which have growing populations. Our goal is to work together with the existing gospel preaching churches in this area to declare and display the gospel of the good news of Jesus Christ to every man, woman, and child.
Jesus said ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.’ Therefore, everything we do will be run through the ministry grid or sieve consisting of two questions: ‘What is God doing in this moment?’ and ‘Will this raise up workers to enter the harvest?’ We believe that there is a ripe harvest in Irmo and we desire to raise up workers and follow God there.
